Privacy policy

Last updated 26 September 2026

This policy explains what personal information National Jewellers collects through nationaljewellers.ca and our online shop, why we collect it, who sees it, where it may be stored and how long we keep it. We handle personal information in accordance with Canadian privacy law, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act where it applies.

Who is responsible

National Jewellers is responsible for the personal information under its control. Questions, access requests, correction requests and privacy complaints go to info@nationaljewellers.ca, or by post to National Jewellers, 61 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville, Ontario L6K 1C9.

What we collect

  • When you buy: your name, email, phone number, billing and delivery addresses, and what you bought. Online payments are processed by Shopify Payments. We see the card type and its last four digits, never the full number.
  • When you write to us or request a viewing: your name, email and phone number, the piece you asked about, the store and time you prefer, and your message.
  • When you attend a viewing, collect an order or receive a hand delivery: the photo ID you show us, which we check against your request or order. Where we need to keep a record of an identity check for fraud prevention or legal compliance, we keep only what is reasonably necessary for that purpose.
  • When you subscribe to new arrivals or ask to be told when a piece arrives: your email address and the consent you gave.
  • When you visit: Shopify and the services we use record technical details such as your device, browser, IP address and the pages you view, to run the shop, keep it secure, prevent fraud and measure advertising and site performance. We use Google Ads to measure whether our advertising leads to visits, enquiries and purchases.
  • Your wishlist and recent searches stay in your own browser, not on our servers. A wishlist share link carries only the pieces on it.

Cookies

Shopify and the other services we use place cookies or use similar technologies for checkout, site functions, security, fraud prevention, analytics and advertising measurement. You can control cookies through your browser, though some are necessary for checkout and the shop's core functions.

How we use it

We use personal information to:

  • process and deliver orders;
  • handle returns, warranty claims and authenticity claims;
  • answer enquiries and arrange and secure private viewings;
  • confirm orders and prevent fraud;
  • protect our customers, staff and property;
  • keep transaction, accounting and tax records;
  • meet legal and regulatory obligations;
  • run and improve the site; and
  • with your consent, tell you about new arrivals.

We do not sell personal information.

Who sees it

Personal information is shared only as needed with the organisations that help us operate:

  • Shopify, which runs our online shop and processes payments. If you use Shop Pay, Shopify's own privacy policy also applies to your Shop Pay account.
  • FedEx, UPS, DHL, Canada Post or another delivery provider used for your order.
  • Our logistics partner, which stores the collection, packs orders and receives returns.
  • The service we use to issue return labels.
  • Google, and any other analytics or advertising provider enabled on our site, for the purposes described above.
  • Payment, fraud-prevention and authentication providers, where needed to verify a transaction or a claim.
  • Our accountants and lawyers, who are bound by confidentiality.
  • Police, courts, regulators or other authorities, where the law requires or permits it.

Where it is stored

Shopify and some of our other service providers may process or store information outside Canada, including in the United States. Information processed in another country may be accessible to courts, law-enforcement bodies or regulators under the laws of that country.

How long we keep it

We keep personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose it was collected for, subject to legal, tax, accounting, fraud-prevention and dispute requirements. In general:

  • Orders and tax records: at least six years after the end of the tax year they relate to, or longer where the law requires.
  • Warranty and authenticity records: as long as needed to administer the warranty, an authenticity claim or a dispute.
  • Fraud, chargeback and return evidence: as long as needed to investigate or defend the transaction and any related claim.
  • Viewing and customer-service records: as long as needed to complete the request, maintain security and resolve related questions.
  • Marketing consent and email: until you unsubscribe, plus any period for which we must keep evidence of consent.

When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymise it.

Your choices and rights

  • Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link, and you can withdraw marketing consent at any time.
  • You can use your browser's cookie settings, or the privacy settings offered by services such as Google, to limit advertising measurement.
  • You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct anything inaccurate or incomplete. We respond within the time the law requires.
  • You can withdraw consent, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice.
  • You can make a privacy complaint to us using the contact details above.

Marketing email

We send commercial electronic messages only where we have the consent Canada's anti-spam law requires, or another lawful basis. Every marketing email identifies National Jewellers and includes a working unsubscribe link, and we act on unsubscribe requests within the period the law requires.

Security

We use administrative, physical and technical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information we hold. Access to personal information is limited to the staff and service providers who need it for their work. Card payments are handled through Shopify's payment systems, and National Jewellers does not receive the full card number for online transactions. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect personal information against loss, theft and unauthorised access, use, disclosure or modification.

Children

The shop is not intended for anyone under the age of majority, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
