Terms of service

1. Who we are
National Jewellers is an Ontario corporation based at 61 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville, Ontario L6K 1C9. You can reach us at info@nationaljewellers.ca.
These terms apply to nationaljewellers.ca and to anything bought through it. Nothing in them limits the rights you have under consumer protection law.
2. The pieces
Every piece is pre-owned unless its listing says otherwise, and every piece is one of one.
- The piece you receive is the piece in the photographs. Each listing gives a condition grade on our six-tier scale: Vintage, Good, Very Good, Excellent, Pristine or Store Fresh, and describes the wear.
- Photographs are taken under studio light. Colour, finish and condition can look different in other light and on other screens.
- Some materials change with time. Metals and older watch dials can develop a patina, leather can soften and darken, and sterling silver can tarnish depending on how it is stored. Plated finishes on silver can wear with use. A piece may differ slightly from when it was photographed.
- Boxes, pouches, booklets and other accessories shown in photographs may not be the exact ones supplied. What comes with the piece is from the same brand. Papers that belong to the piece itself, such as a warranty card bearing its serial number, are exactly as listed.
- Measurements are taken by hand and can differ slightly from the brand's published figures.
- Stones are tested and described by our gemologists. Weights and grades are our estimates unless the listing names a laboratory report.
- Metal is tested before a piece is listed.
- A listing names what comes with the piece. Anything it does not name is not included.
3. Retail prices
Where a listing shows a retail price, it is our estimate of what the brand charges, or last charged, for a comparable new piece. We set it at our discretion from sources we choose, and it may not be exact. Prices can change after a listing is published.
It is shown for reference only. It is not an appraisal, a valuation, a price we have charged, an indication of future value, or financial advice.
4. The brands
National Jewellers is independent. We are not affiliated with, authorised by or endorsed by any brand we sell.
Brand names are used to describe the pieces and remain their owners' trademarks. A manufacturer's warranty that still runs on a piece may not be honoured by the brand for a pre-owned purchase. It is not a warranty from us.
5. Prices and payment
- Prices are in Canadian dollars. Sales tax is added at checkout according to the delivery province.
- Online, we accept major credit cards and Shop Pay.
- For larger purchases we may, at our discretion, offer payment by Interac e-Transfer or bank wire.
- The billing address must match the address your card issuer holds.
- For some orders we call to confirm details before dispatch. We will never ask for a card number by phone, text or email.
- Within the Greater Toronto Area we may deliver a piece by hand and take payment in person on a card terminal. That payment is the charge, and the online authorisation is released. Our shipping policy describes how it works.
6. When an order becomes a sale
Your order is an offer to buy. The order confirmation email acknowledges it. We accept the order when we ship the piece, hand it to you, or tell you it is ready to collect.
We may refuse or cancel any order, at any time before the piece is in your hands, if we are not satisfied that the order is genuine. That decision is ours alone, at our sole and absolute discretion, and for security reasons we may not be able to tell you why. Reasons include:
- an order, payment, identity or delivery address we cannot verify within three business days;
- a suspected unauthorised payment or misuse of someone's identity;
- a piece that sold in one of our stores before your order went through;
- a clear error in the price or description;
- a hand delivery where the ID or payment check cannot be completed;
- a pickup order not collected within 48 hours of our email saying it is ready.
If there is a clear error in the price or description and the piece is still available, we will tell you before dispatch, and you choose whether to buy at the correct price or description, or to cancel.
Whenever we cancel, any payment is refunded or released in full straight away. You can cancel at no cost at any time before the piece ships.
7. Delivery and returns
Shipping is free on every order in Canada, by express courier, signed for on arrival.
A piece bought online and delivered to you can be returned within fourteen days of delivery, for any reason, at no cost, by post or at either of our stores, as long as its security tag is still attached. Pieces bought in our stores, and online orders collected from one, are final sale once you take them, and so is any piece whose security tag has been removed.
Our shipping and refund policies set out the details and form part of these terms.
8. Authenticated for as long as you own it
Every piece we sell is authenticated by National Jewellers. If one is ever shown not to be genuine, for as long as you own it, we refund it in full on the terms below.
What authentic means. The piece was made by the brand named in its listing, and every part we describe as original is original. A part we disclose as not original, such as an aftermarket bezel or a replacement strap, is part of the description.
What counts as proof. A written finding that the piece is not genuine:
- for watches and jewellery, from the brand or its authorised service centre;
- for a stone, from GIA, the Gemological Institute of America;
- for handbags and small leather goods, from Entrupy, Real Authentication or Authenticate First.
How to claim. Bring or send us the piece with the finding. We arrange the shipping at our cost.
What we do. Within five business days we check that it is the piece we sold, against our record. A finding from the brand or from GIA is final, and we refund everything you paid for the piece. If a finding comes from one of the handbag authenticators and we disagree, we pay for a second finding from another of them and accept its answer. If the second finding is that the piece is genuine, the claim ends there, and we return the piece to you at our cost. The refund is paid once the piece is back with us, and the piece is then ours.
How long. There is no time limit. The right to this refund belongs to the person who bought the piece from us, for as long as they own it.
What it does not cover. Parts changed, or repairs and servicing done by anyone else after purchase. Wear and condition are covered by the fourteen-day return.
9. Watch warranty
Watches carry a six-month warranty on the movement from the date of purchase. If the movement fails in normal use, we repair it at our cost, or refund what you paid if it cannot be repaired.
The warranty does not cover water damage, knocks and drops, crystals, straps, bracelets or batteries, or a watch opened, serviced or adjusted by anyone else. Watches graded Vintage are sold as described, without this warranty.
Do not take a pre-owned watch into water until it has been pressure-tested.
10. Alterations
Resizing, shortening and other work are quoted in writing before we begin. A piece altered at your request cannot be returned, and we will say so before the work starts.
11. Private viewings
Any piece can be seen in person before you buy it, at our Toronto or Oakville store, by appointment.
Where the pieces are. No piece from our online collection is kept at our stores. Pieces are held in secure storage by a logistics partner and are brought in only for a confirmed appointment, usually within two business days of confirming it. They return to storage the same day.
Requesting a viewing. Request a viewing through our site with your name, phone number and the piece you would like to see. We confirm every appointment by phone before a piece is brought in, and we may ask for more information.
Identification. Bring photo ID in the name on the request. A valid driver's licence or passport is enough on its own. With any other photo ID, or one that is not government-issued, we may ask for a second piece of ID.
Who attends. The appointment is for the person named on the request. Tell us in advance if anyone will join you.
At the appointment. A specialist stays with you and the piece throughout. Pieces are shown one at a time, and we may limit how many are brought in for one appointment.
Our discretion. We bring a piece in only once we are satisfied with the request. We may decline, postpone, cancel or end any viewing at our sole discretion, for example where we cannot verify the request or have a security concern, and we may not be able to tell you why.
No obligation. A viewing carries no obligation to buy, and a request does not reserve a piece. If it sells before your appointment, we will tell you at once.
Buying at a viewing. A piece bought in store is final sale. It leaves with you once payment is complete.
12. Your wishlist
Your wishlist is kept in your own browser, not on our servers. Anyone with a wishlist share link can see the pieces on it.
13. Our photographs and descriptions
The photographs, condition reports and descriptions on this site are ours. Share links freely, but do not copy them to sell or describe other pieces.
14. Liability
We are responsible for the pieces we sell being as described, and for keeping the promises in these terms and our policies. We are not responsible for losses that could not reasonably have been foreseen. Where the law allows a limit, our total liability for a purchase is the price you paid for it.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits rights or remedies that cannot legally be excluded or limited.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The version on the site when you place an order is the one that applies to that order.
16. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Disputes are decided by the courts of Ontario, except where consumer protection law gives you rights that cannot be waived or requires another forum.
